BOO!!! HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Halloween really is one of my favorite holidays; is it a real holiday? lol
Well, it is one of my favorite times of year :) I like the candy, the costumes, the cool crisp air, the trees turning all those beautiful colors, oh and did I mention the candy? LOL

My ten year old seems to think he is to old to go trick or treating this year, but I say just wait til he gets with his friends and he will want to go get some candy too!
Do you still go trick or treating? Sometimes I dress up so when I answer the door to pass out candy to all the little goblins they get quite a surprise!
Will you be attending a costume party this year?
Well, I'm not going to this year, but in past years I have been to some great costume parties!
I like to do the wigs and face paint with some cool costume! Oh, and vampires are my favorite character to dress up as! LOL
One thing I don't care much for is the costumes portraying some of the movie characters that all they do is go out and kill people, like the "Scream" mask, or "Jason" mask, they are such violent characters, I like to keep it light and fun, still scary though :)
I love to go to the haunted houses too! Zachary isn't much on those right now, he gets a bit to scared, so we will probably skip that this year, lol.
Today we will carve a pumpkin so we can put a candle on the inside and light it tonite out on the front porch. And I might paint a couple of smaller pumpkins. This is something that has become a tradition with me and my kids.
Cleaning out the pumpkin is always real fun, with all that gooy stuff on the inside! lol We usually toast some pumpkin seeds in the oven too, yummmmmm
What ever you decide to do tonite, I hope you have a safe, fun, scary, Halloween !!!!!
Dress up and have some fun!!!!!
Take care all my friends out there in blogland :)

WIP/ EXPRESSION IN COLOR

Expression in color........................I love it! I love expressing my thoughts and feelings with color. What could be more fun?
Although my subject matter is on quite a serious note. I recently viewed a video on Youtube that really made my stomach roll!
In America, even after all this country has been thru, there are still some people determined to make race and the color of ones skin an issue. You know the dirty word I'm trying to avoid...........racism, about the dirtiest word I know. And why, of all places, are Americans STILL fighting each other on this issue I'll never figure that one out! We are all human beings and we all deserve to be treated with respect, and to be loved, and to be treated equally under our laws.
There are some regions of the United States that keep the racism game going on for all of us, the Deep South.
Now don't get me wrong, I love the South, lived here all my life for the most part. But, I'm talking deeeeeeeeeeep south, lol. And, it's not the majority that continue to disrespect people of color, certain religious groups, and different races other than there own.
I wonder if these radical "white" Americans have ever asked themselves the question about where they actually come from? Because 99% of us have our roots in other lands around the globe.
I guess if you are a full blood Indian you could have a legitimate gripe, but, full blood Indians are very few and far between these days! :) Kinda like the white buffalo.

My main point here is this, We are all human beings, regardless of skin color, race, religion, country, etc. We all breathe the same air the same way even!
Are we so immature and arrogant that we can't receive each other as such? America is and always has been the "melting pot". So the next time you are tempted to use another dirty term, like "illegal alien" stop yourself and think for a minute. That's all I'm asking of anyone.

This painting is the beginning of a series of paintings I intend on doing about expressing who we are, or what we feel with color. So stay tuned , there is more on the way :)

A New Painting

I just finished this painting tonite. I'm fairly pleased with it, but it looks so much better in real life. LOL It just doesn't look as good in pictures, lol.
I used acrylic on a canvas board. I was actually inspired by a picture of some cool bricks. Funny where we find inspiration some times! LOL This is the first painting I've done in some time now, but I feel good about it, and I had a wonderful time creating.
I don't have a title yet, so if you have any ideas I would love to hear them.
Hope everyone had a happy Monday!

The Bread Art Project

Have you ever heard of the "Bread Art Project" ? Well, I had never heard of it until I came across a certain blog :)
It's an organization that is trying to stop hunger in America, while teaching children and others about good nutrition.
The way they have incorporated art into it is exceptional! You need to check this out for sure, and I know you will want to participate in the project.
And while you are there you should check out some of the extra cool sandwiches! Making a sandwich is an art all it's own, lol, and then you get to eat it too! Keri, over at sandwich365.blogspot.com shows you how to make some really exciting sandwiches and she shows you places to visit for some great sandwiches too. Everytime I visit her blog I get sooooooooooo hungry. LOL So enjoy yourself and indulge!

I have started a new art project. I have a mirror that is brown and dull. So, I've decided to paint it and give it some life. I like having a mirror close to the front door, so when you are running out the door to go to work you can check to make sure you don't have toothpaste all over your face or a booger hanging out your nose! :) So, anyway, I thought it might be interesting to show the steps I'm taking to transform this dull, ugly, mirror into something that will not only be functional but pretty too.
The first thing I've done is to use some white Gesso to prime the surface. Now with a mirror you obviously need to tape it off, so that you don't get Gesso or paint on the mirror. Yes, you could probably get it off but who wants the extra work?? So, I've taped it for this purpose.

It took 4 coats of Gesso to cover the brown well and get a nice smooth surface for the new colors. These are the colors I intend on using. I have a lot of greens , browns, and purples in my living room. I use purple for mostly an accent color.

The next thing I've done is decided on a design for my mirror. Jesse, my boyfriend, over at The Main Art Blog @1968 , has shown me some Grecca designs. He and I had worked with these designs on some masks he created. Check that out some time, they are really cool! So, I've decided I might try a Grecca design for my mirror, what do you think?

I'm not completely finished with the design, but I hope to finish it today. Let me know what you think about my mirror project, and the "Bread Art Project " too!
Happy Sunday :)
